Mindfulness for teachers: Key to personal well-being and successful work with children
Being a teacher is a calling, it's not just a profession. Teachers are the ones who shape future leaders and creators with their lessons, expectations and faith in young people. Therefore, their role in society is invaluable.
But when it comes to teachers, the daily challenges they face, such as poor mental health, lack of communication skills and other difficulties, can be exhausting. But mindfulness practices used around the world are an important tool for well-being, both for teachers and young learners.
Benefits of practicing mindfulness practices
Mindfulness practice connects us with "here and now" and helps in developing spiritual and emotional stability. Teachers are often faced with the overwhelming responsibility and emotional burden they receive from their role. And here, the help that mindfulness practice offers them is invaluable.
Thich Nhat Hanh, the Buddhist monk and teacher, said: "That we breathe and are alive is a miracle. This moment is a miracle." This message helps us understand the power of awareness, and the inner rhythm of peace.
Regular practice of mindfulness practices can improve attention, reduce stress and develop empathy.
Dalai Lama said, "If we teach children meditation, we eliminate violence in the world, in one generation."
Successfully held seminar for teachers
Within the framework of the "HEALthyME - Mental well-being of young people in schools in Macedonia" project, a seminar for teachers was successfully held in Skopje. We covered relaxation techniques, conscious breathing, worked with the RAIN technique and had an interactive mirror game inspired by Self Love Rainbow.
We concluded that the importance of self-care is key for teachers, and participants reflected on 2024 and looked to 2025, focusing on how to build better personal well-being and contribute to society.
