Love Without Borders: How to Choose a Partner with Heart and Mind

  • December 24, 2024
  • Com 0

What influences the choice of partner?
A seemingly simple question, but the answer is very complex. The choice of a partner is the result of a combination of conscious and unconscious factors. Most often, family background and behavioral patterns learned in childhood play a key role.

For example, a girl who had a troubled father – an abuser or an alcoholic – may unconsciously choose partners with similar characteristics. Therapists often encounter cases where women whose fathers were alcoholics end up marrying men who have the same pathology. These choices are usually based on deep-rooted unconscious mechanisms, not rational thinking.

Chemistry or choice?
Many people believe that "chemistry" is the deciding factor when choosing a partner. However, this "chemistry" often reflects our unconscious needs or unresolved emotional issues. Some people choose partners who resemble their parents, while others are attracted to those who complement their flaws.

For example:

  • Insecure people choose confident partners.
  • The talkative seek the silent.
  • Rigid people choose spontaneous people because they feel "liberated" in their presence.

Women who believe they constantly meet the "wrong men" are usually dealing with unconscious fears or unresolved emotional issues. For example, those who fear commitment often attract immature or unavailable partners.

Partnership: What does it mean?
A partnership is a union of two individuals who decide to combine their energies, talents, and resources to create a new reality. In a healthy partnership, both partners do not lose their individuality, but complement it and grow together.

Ideally, the partnership is based on the following principles:

  1. Friendly relationship – Mutual respect and enjoyment of time together.
  2. Recovery capacity – Ability to solve problems together.
  3. Tenderness and respect – Nurturing intimacy and emotional connection.
  4. Mutual influence – Flexibility and openness to learning from each other.
  5. Attention to everyday details – Responsibility for small but significant moments.
  6. Problem solving – Distinguishing between those that can be resolved immediately and those that require time and patience.
  7. Building shared values – Sharing common goals and visions for the future.

Creating love is a process. The transition from "I" to "we" requires dedication, patience, and constant investment.
